NK28: Trailing “Opacities & Allures” c28

Fadeaway Tapes co-head and Sundrips member, Ryan Connolly fucks up some solo guitar onto tape in these two side-long drones, his follow-up to last year’s self-release split with Thoughts On Air. Vibrating metallic sound particles collide and ricochet into a net of dusty reverb 28 minutes long. Edition of 100 pro-dubbed tapes with color labels, risographed and photocopied artwork on various cardstock, with insert.

NK27: Clearing “No Titles” c40

The second album on No Kings of sumptuous electronic suites from Murfreesboro’s Joseph Volmer (Party Trash, Virgin Spirit, Skylines, Police Academy 6) is wrought with slow intensity. These 7 stunning tracks channel classic moments from Baraka-soundtrack-era Dead Can Dance and Philip Glass, with space-high extremes that then plunge into the bleakest depths. At times plaintive, at others frightening, the icy chord progressions shatter and reform with each passing moment. Edition of 100 pro-dubbed tapes with color labels. Risographed and photocopied art based on accompanying video work by Geoffrey Sexton, with insert by Amy Fortunato.

HIV103: Geoffrey Sexton “Night City Untertow” c37

Now in distro, direct from Geoff, artist copies of this tape from the ever-lovely Hooker Vision… Note: if you are also buying new NK tapes, please purchase Geoff’s in a separate transaction since they are going to different accounts. Thanks!

As a filmmaker and member of Tennessee weirdo collective, Horsehair Everywhere, Geoffrey Sexton has honed his ability to craft stirring environments, often unsettling in their dissonance yet warm and welcoming as they slowly reveal themselves to you. As a solo artist, Sexton makes splendid use of the treated guitar, hammering and bowing it in a quasi-religious frenzy. 37 min solid black, pro-dubbed cassette with gold imprint. Full color art by Grant Evans. Edition of 100.

NK25: Scissoring “We Hate Everything” c30 - SOLD OUT

Two crazy dudes, Dan “Cough Cool” Sviseny and William Cody “Pink Priest” Watson, have given up their corporeal bodies and made some kind of Voltron Mutant union that is Scissoring. Each half-mutant man taking a side of this tape, they have gathered the sound dust of civilizations and run them through the shredder a thousand times to make a paste, and they are smearing it all over our faces and stomachs. Cough Cool’s side is four tracks entitled 1. I, 2. AM, 3. WILLIAM, 4. BASINSKI. Cody’s is called Who Gives a Fuck. Truly they hate everything. This is Scissoring’s first effort, they have since gone on to complete two more albums, NUCLEAR WET EARTH, and NO DREAM / NO REGRETS. Pro-dubbed imprinted tapes with photocopied artwork designed by WCW, as well as a letterpressed mini-print of his drawing of what seems to be a gremlin flipping you off. Edition of 60. - SOLD OUT -

NK24: Coupler “America in the Coming Age of Electronics” c32 - SOLD OUT

This member of Nashville legendary bands Lambchop and Hands Off Cuba presents his first solo effort as Coupler with America in the Coming Age of Electronics, featuring guests like our friends Hobbledeions, Sugar Sk*_*lls, and Corney Tidwell, all excellent studio musicians and artists in their own right. Playing a huge variety of unique equipment (how many tapes do you have that feature melotron?) Ryan Norris sketches out delicate compositions and spacious electronic riffs that are in places reminiscent of Jonny Greenwood’s film score work, and seem to tell a retro-futurist origin story of America. Pro-dubbed imprinted tapes with two-layer artwork: gocco screenprint pattern, and glass painting acetate overlay by Geoffrey Sexton, with double-sided risograph liner notes on newsprint. Edition of 70. -SOLD OUT-

NK22: Ophibre “Chronic Complications” c40 - SOLD OUT

Ben Rossignol offers up 40 minutes of raw experiments in synthesis from his frontier workshop in Boston, playing built-from-scratch analog machines of his own design, and other mystery equipment. This dramatic document is rooted in the tradition of noise/music boundary exploration, while its upper limbs claw the modern mist. Edition of 60 pro-dubbed / imprinted tapes with letterpressed artwork. - SOLD OUT -

NK20: Aerial Jungle “Tales of Acoustic Levitation” c50 - SOLD OUT

This epic follow-up to their Hooker Vision debut deftly captures the ideal essence of contemporary synth / ambient music, and further cements the Midas touch of both Brad Rose (The North Sea, Digitalis Industries) and Rachel Evans (Motion Sickness of Time Travel, Quiet Evenings, Hooker Vision). The 50 transportive minutes of “…Acoustic Levitation” invoke a supernatural science fiction spirit, with tones and rhythms that are both manufactured and organic, as if dredged up from a future where technology and nature are intertwined. With titles like “The Meissner Effect” which has to do with magnetic levitation, the science magic vibe is clear.
Edition of 60 pro-dubbed / imprinted tapes with letterpressed artwork on pink or white paper. -SOLD OUT-

NK19: Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier “Discovering Mathematics 2” c42 - SOLD OUT

This prolific triple-threat talent (artist / writer / musician, obviously) from Belgium has graciously allowed No Kings to handle 42 minutes of her chance operation / intuitive sound collage work, after a myriad of releases on such underground institutions as Digitalis, Stunned, and Kaugummi. “Discovering Mathematics II” is warm, spacious, and immersive, and is treated with the same emphasis on process, openness and relationships between elements as her visual art. Edition of 60 pro-dubbed tapes with gold foil / green imprint, letterpressed artwork based on a text book. -SOLD OUT-

NK21: Ttotals “Live at Grady’s” c20 - SOLD OUT

This psych two-piece are mining something raw and hazy from the Nashville undercurrent, skimming off and putting it down thick and black. And after several self-released vinyl EPs and a CD on Kimberly Dawn, they sent us over some appropriately fuzzy live recordings from their last tour out to California, during which they also played a blistering show at No Kings HQ. Four tracks of pure, stripped down, raw psychedelia, which are nicely warmed up by a cassette dub. Brian’s cranked straight-into-the-amp guitar, and Marty’s heavy hitting, over-sized cocktail drum set up combine into a kind of focused hypnosis rapture. Pro-dubbed, imprinted tapes, letterpressed design by Amy Fortunato with insert by L. Noble, edition of 50. -SOLD OUT-

NK18: Hobbledeions / Sugar Sk*-*lls “Secret Fugue Machine” c44 - SOLD OUT

Nashville drum hero Scott Martin returns as Hobbledeions, and this time brings his Forrest Bride / Hands Off Cuba bandmate and champion of the underground, Ben Marcantel as Sugar Sk*-*lls, for side B of this split. This rad, rad split. Martin sutures dynamic blast beats to electronic atmospheres, while Marcantel brings razor-sharp saw waves and haunted hip-hop gameboy jams. Terribly enjoyable. Special edition of 99 produbbed/imprinted tapes with 4-color letterpressed artwork by No Kings, some printed on variant blue paper. -SOLD OUT-

NK17: Haunted Houses “The Heaven of the Soul & the Heaven of the Moon” c30 - SOLD OUT

The unmistakable ambiance of Ryan Lopilato’s Haunted Houses project is out in full force with this one: distended mystical folk songs, battered tremelo guitar in the back corner of a room, slow-stomp swamp drums, and that signature soulful yelp of Lopilato that is reminiscent of early Isaac Brock. This collection of songs covers some introspective philosophical concepts about the two titular “inner realms” of consciousness, the central theme seems to be as Lopilato states “the power of the beyond is within ourselves”. Heavy thoughts and jagged exp. folk edges. Edition of 40 produbbed/imprinted tapes with full color collage art (+ insert) by Ryan. —SOLD OUT—
